Mahaseer Fishing in Corbett National Park
tarangi resort & spa
corbett national park

In the land of the tiger's roar, lives a shy, slippery creature called the Mahaseer. Mahaseer, meaning the 'big mouth' is no ordinary fish. Especially the Golden Mahaseer - ask any avid angler and he will tell you how special a place the Mahaseer holds in his heart. These elusive fishes provide the toughest challenge in fresh-water fishing, and it is these aqua-wonders that make the Jim Corbett National Park an important fishing destination.

The thrilling challenge posed by the Mahaseer draws anglers from all over the world to India, where the river Ramganga flowing through the wild Corbett forests creates one of the most beautiful settings for angling. Winning the battle against the Mahaseer may call for a simultaneous display of ample skill, strength and speed. Afterall if the Bengal Tigers rules the land in Corbett, in the waters of the Ramganga, the Mahaseers reign. Besides the Ramganga, the River Kosi can offer its own Mahaseer challenges. Two other variations of the Mahaseer - black and silver are also prized. Yet another challenge is the Goonch, a fresh-water scavenger

The warm waters in October-November and April-June make these periods ideally suited for angling. You will need to obtain prior permission from the forest officials for angling in these waters. The Tarangi resort staff will be happy to guide and assist you in your angling tour.
